Reflection on 2017 – Cr Gaedtke

Category : General News

As Christmas is fast approaching, it is time to reflect on the year and to take stock of accomplishments made during 2017.  Council has achieved many goals through its numerous service areas.  Well done and congratulations to everyone involved with implementing Council’s decisions.  I have also witnessed many wonderful community achievements.  Most establishments develop their unique Mission Statement, which is a short-written statement of business goals and philosophies.  A mission statement defines what an organisation is, why it exists, its reasons for being.   It becomes the framework.  I share with you, our Council’s mission:

We, in partnership with the community, will realise our vision by:

  1. Focusing on our customer’s needs
  2. Planning for the future
  3. Utilising resources efficiently and effectively
  4. Using sound business practices
  5. Utilising the practice of continuous improvement

The above mission statement has been developed to assist us to service our community in a responsive, innovative and efficient manner – exercising leadership and builds community strength.

Through a variety of council services, Council feels we can deliver on these promises.

With these philosophies in mind, and as Councillor for the Somerset region, I look forward to assisting in my role wherever possible in 2018, and working hard for our region.  Since being elected as Councillor in March 2016, it has not always been possible to agree with or to implement everything that comes across my desk.  I do understand though, that majority of people wish to be heard and acknowledged.  I find repeatedly, that if you explain the matter and the reasons behind decisions, most people will accept the information, although maybe not completely happy, but at least feeling heard and valued.

I wish to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Prosperous 2018, with ongoing wonderful health and happiness.

After 39 years, 31 as staff and 2 terms as Councillor, I have enjoyed my journey and understand the importance of Local Government as the grass root level of government.
