Reflection on 2017 – Cr Gaedtke

Category : General News

As Christmas is fast approaching, it is time to reflect on the year and to take stock of accomplishments made during 2017.  Council has achieved many goals through its numerous service areas.  Well done and congratulations to everyone involved with implementing Council’s decisions.  I have also witnessed many wonderful community achievements.  Most establishments develop their unique Mission Statement, which is a short-written statement of business goals and philosophies.  A mission statement defines what an organisation is, why it exists, its reasons for being.   It becomes the framework.  I share with you, our Council’s mission:

We, in partnership with the community, will realise our vision by:

  1. Focusing on our customer’s needs
  2. Planning for the future
  3. Utilising resources efficiently and effectively
  4. Using sound business practices
  5. Utilising the practice of continuous improvement

The above mission statement has been developed to assist us to service our community in a responsive, innovative and efficient manner – exercising leadership and builds community strength.

Through a variety of council services, Council feels we can deliver on these promises.

With these philosophies in mind, and as Councillor for the Somerset region, I look forward to assisting in my role wherever possible in 2018, and working hard for our region.  Since being elected as Councillor in March 2016, it has not always been possible to agree with or to implement everything that comes across my desk.  I do understand though, that majority of people wish to be heard and acknowledged.  I find repeatedly, that if you explain the matter and the reasons behind decisions, most people will accept the information, although maybe not completely happy, but at least feeling heard and valued.

I wish to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Prosperous 2018, with ongoing wonderful health and happiness.

Remember to like my Facebook page and there is also lots of information on my web site.  www.cherylgaedkte.com

Valedictory Dux Speech—Stuart Houstoun Kilcoy State High School

Category : General News

Valedictory Dux Speech—Stuart Houstoun Good morning, Class of 2017, teachers, staff, parents, special guests, and the rest of the student body who are stuck here listening to me. Hopefully I shall finish this address without hyperventilating, having an emotional breakdown or just boring you all out. Before I shine the spotlight on my own cohort (really, you’ve had enough attention this week, already), I’d like to pay my respects to everyone who is responsible for getting us to this stage. Parents, you have been the backbone helping our success; encouraging, assisting, threatening us to be our greatest and I hope that we in turn will use your advice to live our lives in ways that don’t disappoint you. Teachers. I must say that Kilcoy has been overserved an abundance of wonderful teachers who have always made sure we reached our goals (or their goals, if ours were lacking). You were a bunch of really nice people and I hope we have nothing but fond memories of you.

I’d like to also give a special shout-out to Mr Aitchison who has announced his retirement at the end of this year. He’s a good bloke who shared his deep passion for his subject (considering it was maths) and had to tolerate all the jokes and memes we made. Cheers, sir. Our thanks must also go to the principals and all the administration staff for organising this school, and whatever else it is they do in the office, but it must be important. To the Class of 2017, I’d like to bestow a “Suggestion from Stuey”. In 1967, Martin Luther King Jr. once said: “If it falls your lot to be a street sweeper, sweep streets like Michelangelo painted pictures. Sweep streets like Shakespeare wrote poetry. Sweep streets like Beethoven composed music. Sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will have to pause and say, ‘Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.’” A hint for the rest of life: you don’t need to be smart or wise or knowledgeable in any particular area. It’s all about Botheredness. (Yep, I just made that word up) As simple as it sounds, you just need to be bothered about stuff.

If you can’t be bothered, then you actually can’t do anything. Luther King’s street sweeper is stuck in a crummy job that pays little wages and little respect, but he is bothered enough to work his hardest in his rubbish situation even if he expects no reward. And if that means for us to be bothered enough to drop social occasions for study, to work your hardest at IGA for that job promotion or to stay up for a whole night to reach your highest score at Tetris, then that is what you should be bothered to do. (Okay, maybe not the Tetris one). We’re leaving what I’ve been told are the “Best Years of Our Lives”. Taking our first brave (or terrified) steps into adulthood. But I’m sure greater times are still to come (better than assignments and exams anyway) and as a wise sci-fi TV series once taught me, “What’s the point in growing up if you can’t be childish sometimes”. Wrapping up, I’d like to say that I’m not going to miss assessments or that really long bell or the crammed bus rides. But I am going to miss all the teachers I made bonds with, all of my fellow students and close friends and all of the enjoyable experiences I have had within this school. But as Dr Seuss advised: “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.”

Thank you everyone and may God bless your futures.

Cr Cheryl Gaedtke – Councillor Report – Wednesday 29 November 2017  –  Kilcoy Chamber

Domestic Violence Project – “Kilcoy Cares”  Successful Funding Application announced Tuesday 28 Nov

  1. 1. Lyn Buchanan (Council’s CDO) spoke about the latest funding application for a DV/child protection related project: The project adopts a whole of community approach with specific goals to unite the Kilcoy community and provide resources that address fundamental issues related to child protection and strengthening families, through a very soft entry approach.  A large proportion of the funding will go towards community engagement to encourage the diverse and disconnected groups (eg CALD, indigenous, established/long term residents, and new residents) to work as one, rather than limiting interaction to within their own groups.  NOTE – This segregation prevents attendance at events and activities and has been attributed to the poor take up of services.

The overarching concept is to create a caring and sharing community under the brand “Kilcoy Cares”, which will be presented to all sectors within the community in the initial phase.  It is anticipated that the local newspaper, business, community groups, services would adopt the brand and work together eg fortnightly newspaper articles on support services, parenting, good news stories; family supportive manager’s specials at the shops under Kilcoy Cares (eg fresh fruit); a facebook page promoting healthy and community oriented activities; council library runs activities under the brand etc.  It would also be promoted with bumper stickers or similar. Also as part of the funding, a minimum of one (1) children’s book will be created addressing the issues identified by the community as a priority and which are affecting local children’s wellbeing and safety.

A top priority which has been identified being poor hygiene and lack of basic manners and social skills of children.  These books will incorporate a Yowie type creature (which is an icon of Kilcoy) who meets three Kilcoy children, who use their combined resourcefulness to teach the young yowie about the identified topic, eg cleanliness and/or manners.  The character’s appearance will be determined from the winner of an art competition from primary school aged children, and the book characters name selected by popular decision from the community, to help create a sense of ownership to the Kilcoy community.

The first book (part of an anticipated Kilcoy Cares series of books which will be written and illustrated by locals and incorporating Kilcoy backdrops), will be launched before June 2018.  This will be held at a time that would maximize participation by the children and hopefully their parents.  In addition to the books which will be given to each child, a care pack of toiletry items (motel size packs) will be included, similar to those provided to Yowie in the story.   Service providers will be invited to participate at the event to assist in activities and connect with the Kilcoy Community.  Future books or other community created initiates would be funded in future from a variety of sources eg RADF, community assistance grants, corporate sponsors, etc.  Note – Phase 2 of the Kilcoy Cares Project will be to consolidate the outcomes of the project and to get buy ins from local residents and businesses who were not involved in Phase 1.  Further Action Plan for Phase 2 to be determined before the end of Phase 1.

  1. 2. Council has sought funding through the Australian Government’s Building Better Regions Fund – Round 2 seeking 50% of the Kilcoy Showground Development Project. The project has a total cost of $922,575.  ($461,287)  Announcement of successful projects is expected in mid 2018.

  1. 3. The 2017 Somerset Youth Leadership Forum requested as a forum goal that a project identified as the Kilcoy Cinema Project be formulated for next year. A group of students from Kilcoy State High School explained that the project would involve holding a movie night once a month, on a Saturday night, at the Kilcoy Information Centre.  Admission prices and sale of food is being discussed.  Council agreed at the last meeting to continue to work with KSHS on the Kilcoy Cinema Project in 2018 with the aim of providing at least 3 movies for youth and families throughout the year.

As Councillor for the Somerset Region, I would like to see this project set up in a way that it is going to be successful.  I believe that there needs input from relevant community groups and other local identities to make this project sing and have longevity.  After a lengthy discussion at the Council meeting, it was agreed that interested bodies/persons present a business plan to Council to qualify and quantify the project further.  I would like to see this project become a successful, regular and permanent entertainment choice for our community.

  1. 4. Wivenhoe Classic Fishing Comp. to be held 17 – 19 August 2018.  (Non-Professional comp.)
  2. 5. 2018 Garden Competition – Entries open 4 June, closes 10 August.  Judging 15 – 21 August.  Winners announced 23 August.  Open Gardens 1,2 Sept & 8,9 Sept.
  3. 6. Mayoral Gala & Charity Ball –  6 October 2018
  4. 7. 4D Living is a registered not-for-profit charity and is bringing to Kilcoy the “Diabetic Health Clinic Lifestyle Program” totally free of charge.  A program for anyone who is sick and tired of struggling with weight issues, poor health due to lifestyle related issues.  Starts Sunday 4 February 2018.  For more info go to diabetichealthclinic.org/register

Kilcoy Art Society – New Monthly Exhibition

A lovely night was shared by a good crowd who attended the Rock & Roll themed opening night of local Artist Mrs Lyn Badman.  Congratulations to Henk Vullers and Di Taylor who won the bested dressed male and female costumes.

Brisbane Valley Kilcoy Landcare Group – AGM

Unfortunately, due to the lack of a quorum, the AGM was postponed to Wednesday 6th December 2017.

Kilcoy State High School Valedictory

Sixty-Four Year 12 students graduated in front of a packed auditorium.  The morning’s ceremony was a fitting way to farewell the students who will now enter the next chapter of their lives.  I noticed that there were lots of mixed feelings and emotions from both parents/caregivers and students.

Kilcoy Indoor Sports Centre – Xbox Draw & Final Youth Night

Once again Council’s Yowie Park sporting precinct was abuzz with local youth enjoying the Aquatic Centre and Indoor Sports Centre activities.  I grabbed a couple of yoga mats and settled down to watch the move Spiderman with our youth, parents and caregivers.  The movie was viewed from a large movie screen set up in the centre’s court.  Popcorn, lollies, savoury dips and drinks were served to the movie goers at interval along with the Xbox Draw.  Congratulations to Kaleb Oldfield who won the Xbox.   River, Jack, Uriah, Kyle and Kaleb won a free membership for good behaviour.  Many thanks to the Kilcoy Lions who donated food to feed the hungry gathering.   Ms McKenzie thanked the volunteers by offering a gift pack of usable items.   Overall the final attendance outnumbered 800 youth, so the need for this type of activity is well noted.

Kilcoy Indoor Sports Centre Manager recognised at Queensland Community Achievement Awards

The Hon Dr Anthony Lynham MP, Minister for State Development and Minister for Natural Resources and Mines presented Jayne McKenzie with the semi-finalist Customer Service Award and Community Group Award at the Gala Dinner held in Brisbane on Saturday evening, 18th November, 2017.  The Minister said “it is a pleasure and so inspiring just how many fantastic high achievers and community contributors there are throughout Queensland”.  Ms McKenzie can take pride in the knowledge that over 800 community groups were nominated state wide, and her nomination was the only one that was included in two separate award categories.

Saturday 18th November 2017 Events

The rain was very welcome, but caused some interruption to some of the events held over the region.  A robust discussion took place at Cormorant Bay to identify the possibility of setting up Park Fun Runs in the area.  The Glen Rock Stitchers were experiencing great sale numbers at their annual Christmas Craft and Gift fair.  The Esk Markets were feeling the effects of the damp weather, with a small number of stalls set up in Pipeliner Park.  The Kilcoy Pony Club received just under 100 nominations for their campdraft.  The club was appreciative of the light showers Saturday morning which settled the dust, but were hoping that further rain was not experienced.   Unfortunately, Sunday events were cancelled due to the increase in showers.  Asphalts Demons were coping with the damp conditions, however stated that due to the weather, the airplanes could no fly and provide their guests with any aerobatic displays this year.

Healthy Land & Water – South East Queensland Report Card 2017

Environmental Condition Grade for Upper Brisbane = D – Poor – Conditions meet few of the guidelines in most of the reporting area.  Many key processes are not functional and most critical habitats are impacted; Stanley = B – Good – Conditions meet guidelines for most of the reporting area.  Most key processes are slightly impacted and most critical habitats are intact.

Councillor Gaedtke encourages Pre-lodgement Development Application Meetings

This not a new service to our Council and the benefits are unlimited, therefore I wish to encourage all who wish to undertake any type of development to seek a meeting with Council’s Town Planning staff.  The process which is voluntary, but strongly recommended, provides a number of opportunities for customers to raise queries and seek clarification or planning advice on development proposals.  The process will not indicate in any way the outcome of any subsequent assessment applications.  You can also request a copy of the record of the pre-lodgement meeting to ensure you are understanding the process.

The customer needs to understand that development applications may include other statutory/regulatory bodies, and are not limited to the following – Department of Main Roads & Transport; Queensland Urban Utilities, South East Queensland Water Board and Electricity providers.   The informal or formal service includes organising a meeting and emailing all relevant documentation through to the Council officer.  These steps are undertaken prior to the applicant officially lodging a development application.  The process will also assist the customer to understand Council’s fees and charges, as well as timeframes with the development application.  Customers are encouraged to sit down with Council officers and discuss their application face to face.  I have attended pre-lodgement development application meetings, and I support the opportunity for customers to talk about the application in simple language and understand how to complete the necessary documentation and associated timeframes.  I have also attended meetings with customers, whereby the customer is confused or concerned by the process, and which can unfortunately result in changes to the development application and associated fees, charges and timeframes.

It must be remembered that Council has very strict timeframes to adhere to with every development application.  I strongly believe taking advantage of this opportunity will only assist to speed up the approval process and facilitate further development and investment in this great region of ours.

Open for business!

Kilcoy Sports Centre – Youth Friday & Gym with Deb Frecklington  MP

This centre just keeps pumping along, with a diverse range of services offered through this local community facility.  Deb Frecklington (MP) was invited to join in with an exercise class with fitness instructor Wendy Smith.   I attended the Kilcoy Youth Friday, and soaked up the enthusiasm of not only the youth attending the evening, but also of the volunteers who provided background music and healthy snacks.  The event is an evening filled with fun and a safe environment to hang out with your friends.

Minds on Canvas – Kilcoy Courthouse Gallery

I was asked to be one of the five judges to award a first place in each of the Under 18’s and Adult section of the Minds on Canvas Exhibition.  I congratulate both winners, and it was gratifying to acknowledge that over fifty entries were received for this very endearing competition.  The adult winning entry was also judged as popular people’s choice.

Annual Awards Night – Toogoolawah & Lowood High School

I thoroughly enjoy being part of these truly wonderful events, whereby students of our solid and leading local state schools are recognised and congratulated for their tireless commitment to their final schooling years.  Our youth are our future, and I feel confident in our future after learning of and witnessing our students’ growing mindset.

Local Councils commit to Digital usage

Local councils in Queensland have made big improvements to the way they manage the huge amount of information they collect and are looking for new opportunities to use data to improve their businesses, according to a comprehensive report.  The report also found that an overwhelming majority of councils regularly used social media to engage with their communities, while more than a quarter were using drone technology to manage assets.   A survey of Queensland councils as part of the report found that most councils are in favour of an ‘open data’ environment where they would share their data with the wider community to help find new ways to meet business and economic challenges.  Only 55 percent of councils reported their community having access to high quality internet in their local areas; up only eight percent (from 47 percent) when first surveyed in 2013.

LGAQ Annual Conference

I appreciate the opportunity to attend the 121st Annual Conference of the LGAQ.  I find that these conferences are an important communication pathway for Councillors to debate matters of importance on behalf of its communities.   I also enjoy the benefits of networking with fellow Councillors who share similar experiences and can provide suggested solutions to various matters.  It is extremely interesting to learn of and attempt to understand the mindset of different Local Authorities.

Mr John McAulay was a special guest of the chamber and presented to the membership his vision with respect to reinventing the Kilcoy Yowie.  John, who has a long affiliation with Kilcoy and District has also been a professional man all of his working life.  John in retirement, is an author and loves to yarn to the travelling public about Kilcoy and District and also loves to tell the story of the Kilcoy Yowie.  The meeting supported John’s ideas and future vision for this important local fable.  I believe that with John’s strong commitment and support, this fable can be marketed to ensure the vision continues on well into the future.

Kilcoy Interagency Meeting

Mr Shayne Neumann attended the meeting and acknowledged that Kilcoy has been very fortunate with various successful federal grants.  He informed the meeting that the Toogoolawah RSL has been successful in achieving a grant for $40,000 to upgrade the hall’s kitchen.  The meeting was informed of other service providers who have moved in to the area and offering support to the wellbeing of the Kilcoy community.

Visit to Local Resident – Linville

This 90-year-old local lady advised that she sees real potential for tourism opportunities in Moore and has actioned her vision by purchasing two blocks of land in Moore.   She plans to add the experience of enjoying our region by planting native trees on one of the blocks, and she is considering her options with the second block of land.  She is very willing to work with existing tourism businesses in the town of Moore.

Somerset Dam & District Progress Association Management Committee Meeting

The agenda was adhered to and apart form one item, all other business listed on the agenda was discussed.  There is a great deal of work to be done to formalize the committee’s processes and policies.  I am sure this can occur if the majority of the committee members seek a similar outcome.

Brisbane Valley Heritage Trail General Meeting – Yarraman

Much discussion took place around the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail and the South Burnett Rail Trail, and the most efficient method to administer and control this valuable tourism asset.  Cr Gavin Jones (or better known as Spud) advised of a major fundraiser for LifeFlight being held at Maidenwell on 2nd December.  The night will concentrate on woodchopping and the strong following that it has.  Our local one-armed chopper, Nick Fredriksen will be competing and David Foster will be the special guest of the night.  John and I look forward to being part of the night and representing his Grandfather, Mr Charles Winkel who was World Champion Axeman in the 1940’s.

Kilcoy State High School Awards Presentation

A lovely morning weather wise to hold the awards presentation.  Students, Teachers, Parents, Family members, Carers and Special Guests enjoyed the effortless ceremony, which ran to clockwork.  So very proud of our young community members, once again there were some amazing achievements reached by some students.  Well Done!  I look forward to fulfilling the role of School Council Chair for another year – 2018.

Fernvale Car & Motorbike Show

Congratulations to Fernvale Youth Inc. in hosting an active and well supported event.  As a result of the strong sponsorship, there were many great prizes awarded to the various judging categories.  Fernvale was abuzz with people, cars, motorbikes and great food.

The LGAQ has proposed imposing limits on the distance commercial waste could travel before it was dumped or recycled as a way of dealing with the huge jump in interstate waste being transported across the Queensland border.  The Association suggests amending existing laws to include a “proximity principle” allowing southern Queensland waste facilities the option of rejecting waste that has been transported more than 150 km from its source.  The proposal is contained in the LGAQ’s submission to the independent investigation into the cross-border transport of waste to Queensland landfills.

Sunshine Coast Regional Council – Trial Program to Control GRT

A 12-month trial program using a variety of control techniques run by Sunshine Coast Council to combat the highly-invasive Giant rat’s tail grass (GRT) has shown remarkable results and will now be rolled out across council-managed road reserves.  Listed as a restricted invasive plant under the Biosecurity Act 2014, GRT is an aggressive weed that reduces pasture productivity and can significantly degrade natural eco-systems.

Environment Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said GRT was a huge concern for council and our rural landholders.

“GRT is a fast spreading weed that can significantly reduce pasture grasses for livestock, making it a serious issue for our local farmers,” Cr McKay said.  “Council conducted a six-month field trial in 2015 that showed positive results, so this extended trial was designed to validate the longer-term success of the control methods.  “The trial aimed to make a significant reduction in the presence of GRT and involved testing new methods to destroy existing plants and also reduce the spread.”

The trial involved:

  • Herbicide applications across infested land
  • Council’s free weed control hire equipment offered to property owners for use in the project area
  • Infested areas were not to be slashed during the treatment period to remove any risk of weed seed spread and to maximise the uptake of applied herbicides
  • Non-chemical trial plots – infested areas were brush cut to remove all viable seed heads and geofabric was installed over the infestation
  • Data collation post spring and summer treatments.

The results were particularly encouraging at the non-chemical geofabric control site where a 100 percent reduction was achieved. This location will continue to be monitored for the next one to two years to assess the ongoing success.

Linville Spring Fair

The Linville hall was packed full of items for sale and which attracted a good crowd.  Could not help myself and had to buy something for myself as well.  Well done to the organisers.

Beer & BBQ Festival – Kilcoy

Beautiful weather for the second Beer & BBQ Festival held at the Exchange Hotel, William Street service lane and into Aston Park.  The crowd was equal to the inaugural event held last year, with many more stalls attending this year’s festival.  Kilcoy Pastoral Company sponsored the BBQ Cook Off, and it was great to see some of the teams travelling interstate to take part in this Australian based competition.

Kilcoy Motocross Club

With over 300 junior competitors at the Kilcoy venue for the SEQMX (Round 2), the weekend was well organised and supported.  John and I were entertained by a fun competition, where the juniors had to do push-ups, race their bikes, skull a glass of water to see who the winner was.  Well done to the junior female who entered along with all the junior males.  It was also commendable to be able to buy local produce at the canteen – well done Kilcoy MotorX committee.

Meeting with Sgt Tanwan & Council’s CDO

I believe ongoing communication with the local Police will only assist Council to understand the makeup of the community and identify which services are lacking at a local level.  Discussion points will be referred to the Kilcoy Interagency group.

 Kilcoy Hospital Auxiliary AGM

Congratulations to outgoing and incoming Executives for a job well done.  A major fund raiser will be the Kay Avery Bowls Day to be held on 14th October.  A great deal of funds was raised by the committee’s Hospital Fete held in May.  The committee will also investigate the feasibility of organising a fashion show.

Somerset Dam & Districts Progress Assn Management and Committee Meeting

Cr Brieschke and I attended the meeting and I was overwhelmed by the tone of the meeting.  I do believe that with some rectification and ongoing trust and respect this committee can align itself to become a professionally administered group in the future.

Interagency Meeting – Kilcoy

Service providers advised the meeting of current and future services that will be available in Kilcoy, and an attempt will be made to assist the recent local DV incidents.  An in-depth discussion took place around a very new initiative that is designed to promote a holistic approach to wellbeing.  The eight-week program will be available next year and in the interim, there is a strong need to market the program in an effort to reach community members that will benefit from this free self-awareness course.

Back to Work program delivers for Somerset region jobseekers

On 25th September, Employment Minister Grace Grace visited an Esk business which is one several in Queensland’s Somerset region to hire a jobseeker through the Palaszczuk Government’s Back to Work jobs program.  Ms Grace said it was fantastic to visit local business AJ’s Barbers Shack and Hair Salon, which has successfully used the program to get a jobseeker back into employment.

“Somerset employers are right getting behind our Back to Work program to hire local jobseekers,” she said.   “It’s great to see employers in the Somerset region taking advantage of the incentives on offer to get more Queenslanders back to work.   “Businesses often need that extra bit of confidence to take someone on board and this program is delivering that confidence in spades.

Back to Work South East Queensland * From July 1, 2017 Support payments available for eligible employers of up to:

  • To be eligible, employees need to have started work on, or after Saturday 1 July 2017, and have been employed for at least four weeks.

Positive Feedback with respect to newly installed Traffic Speed signage

Positive feedback has already been received from residents who are very appreciative of new traffic speed signage erected in specific streets in Kilcoy.  Feedback also related to concerns about the volume of traffic speeding through Graham and Seib Streets.

Councillor Gaedtke - Councillor Report - Ordinary Council Meeting13 March 2024Queensland will be the biggest loser from the latest GST carve-up among the states and territories, the Commonwealth Grants Commission has revealed. In its latest report on Tuesday, the commission revealed Queensland’s share of GST in 2024-25 would be cut by nearly $500m on last year’s figure, to $17.46bn, while other states will also lose, and other states will benefit from the proposed changes. How will this impact Queensland Local Government?I have had a very sick husband for the past four weeks and shingles has caused him to suffer with severe nerve pain in the left side of his head, with very little successful pain control. This has made me realise what is important in life, and what is not. Yesterday, I was made aware of a third news article by close friends, that once again attempts to discredit me as a councillor for a live 20 second video. As human beings we all make mistakes, but we must own our mistakes and learn by them, enough said. It is totally un-Australian not to be able to voice your opinion openly, responsibility and professionally. The perpetrator this time may have shown the true character. As I said after the second news article, some 13 months ago, I pray for the soul of this tormented individual. I believe almost 40 years loyal service to Local Government outweighs one minor error of judgement.Ordinary Council Meeting Minutes RECORDMatters of public interest – Cr Gaedtke I read this morning that Queensland will be the biggest losers in the GST carve up amongst the States. The Commonwealth Grants Commission has revealed this unfortunately. So, in its latest report on Tuesday, the Commission revealed Queensland share of GST in 2024 - 25 will be cut by nearly five hundred million dollars so that's a cut on last year's things of 17.46 billion dollars. So, all I'm thinking, other states are losing obviously, other states are gaining. Queensland's not gaining, it's losing and I wonder how this impact will affect Queensland local government. And secondly, and this pain's me having to raise this but I think I'm entitled to do this. I've had a very sick husband for the past four weeks and shingles has caused him to suffer with severe pain on the left side of his head with very little successful pain control. It's a horrendous health condition. And if I can just implore everyone who's had chicken pox or even if you're not sure about chickenpox please give them their vaccination. Shingles is a horrible thing to go through I'm sitting and watching it as we speak now. So, this has made me realise what is important in life and what’s not. Yesterday I was made aware of a third news article by a close friend. My friend tells me that it's about a live 20 second video that I did back in May 2022 at the opening of the Toogoolawah Gym and Pool. It was the official opening. Yes, I did a 20 second live video tape which was against policy and the funding agreement from the state government as it funded most of that structure. So, once again this individual attempt to discredit me as a councillor through printed articles. This is the third one, the third one since May 2022. I've made mistakes but we own our mistakes and learn by them. That's enough said because we're human beings. So it's to me it is totally un-Australian not to be able to voice my opinion openly and responsibly and professionally as I did in the newspaper back on the sixth of March 2024 about how I found local government over 40 years and who my preferred candidates are to lead this council in the right direction over the next four years and beyond. So, the perpetrator this time they've shown their true character by the article that appears in a local newspaper. As I said after the second news article some 13 months ago, I prayed for the soul of this tormented individual. I believe my 40 years of loyal service to local government outbreaks one minor error of judgement. Thank you ... See MoreSee Less
